Question by xocharlie14: Kind of complicated problem – Canon digital camera/memory card issue ?? HELP?
Hi i have a Canon Powershot SD1100 and a SanDisk 1GB SD Memory Card.

Today I was messing around with the settings, and went to “FORMAT” and changed the format of the memory card to “Low Level Format.”

All of my pictures and videos disappeared !!!
The “Review” says the memory card is empty and the settings tell me there is 0KB used up on the card…

I’m not sure if they have disappeared forever or they are being stored somewhere and there is a way to recover them.

these were really really important photos to me, so i’dreally appreciate any info you guys have for me about this !

HOWEVER, i have one piece of information that hints me off to thinking they are not lost forever. i had at least one video on the memory card that i had LOCKED. and even that one has disappeared, and lockng it should prevent it rom being deleted under any circumstances. so my guess is that they are somewhere, and i am really really desperate for someone to help me !!

As long as you have not taken any new pictures you can probably recover them. There is data recovery software that will do it. If you have taken new pictures then they are gone forever as they have been overwritten.

Locking it does not prevent it from being deleted by formatting. Formatting wipes the card clean. Not matter what you do.
